Golden Retriever History
The Golden Retriever's story is a long way to go all the way back from the eighteen hundreds in Scotland. The breed was first developed by a man named Lord Tweedmouth, who was seeking a hunting dog that would do the work in the area, and have a great look.
Lord Tweedmouth purchased a yellow colored puppy from a cobbler in Brighton 1865th It was the only yellow puppy in a litter of black wavy-coated retriever. This dog was to Nous. The juvenile was later bred to a Tweed Water Spaniel named Belle in 1868 and again in 1871. This was the beginning of the line of yellow retrievers.
Descendants of Nous and Belle were breed with wavy edge and Flat-Coated Retriever, another Tweed Water Spaniel, and a red setter. Lord Tweedmouth would hold especially the yellow puppies and a pair of black, to continue his race.
Some of these dogs were given to friends and relatives used, and primarily by gamekeepers, as a gentleman's hunting dog Agreement.
Lord Tweedmouth sons brought the Golden Retriever in 1900 to America, where it quickly became popular. They were initially for a variety of Flat-Coated Retriever, but were later as a separate breed in 1912, recognized and accepted by the American Kennel Club in 1925.
The Golden Retriever is now the second most popular dog in America, and the second most registered with the American Kennel Club. The Labrador Retriever in number one.
