Eating problems with an 11 week old bloodhound and 71/2 month old golden retriever?
My bloodhound (Honey) is an aggressive eater. My golden (Sweetie) is a relaxed take your time and savor each bite eater. Problem, Honey finishes her food in about 15 seconds (literally) and goes on to Sweetie’s food. Bloodhounds are aggressive eaters and tend to bloat so letting her eat the other food isn’t an option, plus I want Sweetie to be able to eat all of her food. Is there any way other than leashing Honey to keep her from eating the other food. I stay home, so a training technique is welcomed.
BTW: Hunger IS NOT the issue, if she eats more than what I give her, she throws up a few minutes later.
I have heard if you put a large stone or rock in the dog’s bowl with its food this slows the eating down quite a bit as the dog has to work its way around the stone to get to its food. Make sure that it is a very heavy stone and one which the dog would be unable to lift out with its mouth. This is recommended for dogs who have a tendency to bloat.
If this doesn’t work then I would suggest feeding Honey in her crate away from Sweetie to make sure they both get their fair share.
I hope you can resolve the problem. Good luck.
